They Called Me Docky
Behind My Back
During the summer of 1958, I was taking courses at the Sorbonne in Paris. I received at least two letters from friends telling me they had visited the Bronx Zoo and had seen the Surinam toad, among other animals. Then I received this poem, written by a number of my friends. Different lines were written by different people, as shown by their initials. I was enormously pleased to receive the poem.
